First Lieutenant Cutis was a veteran of World War II as a B17 Pilot with the 34th Bomb Group, 18th Squadron in Mendelsham, England. During the Korean War, he was a pilot on a flying transport, serving with the 437th Troop Carrier Group, 85th Troop Carrier Squadron, Brady Air Base, Japan. He died on April 30, 1952 while flying a transport flight that went down near Kamikawa, Japan.
