First Lieutenant De Luna was the pilot of a F-84E Thunderjet fighter with the 430th Fighter-Bomber Squadron, 474th Fighter-Bomber Group. On April 12, 1953, while on a combat mission, his plane was hit by a MiG-19 and crashed. He was listed as Missing in Action and was presumed dead on April 13, 1954. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
