Notes
Sergeant First Class Edwards was a veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was a member of Company E, 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. On January 2, 1951, when his platoon was required to withdraw from a strategic hill near Changbong-ni, South Korea, it came under vicious fire from an enemy machine-gun on adjacent high ground. Singlehandedly, he charged the emplacement throwing grenades and expelling the enemy. Although wounded, he twice again assaulted the position annihilating the crews. During his third assault he was mortally wounded.
