Sergeant Ellis was a member of Company K, 3rd Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was seriously wounded in South Korea on September 21, 1950 and returned to duty four days later. He was wounded in North Korea on November 13, 1950 and returned five days later. He was wounded on November 26. 1950 and returned four days later. He was listed as Missing in Action while fighting the enemy in South Korea on February 12, 1951. He was presumed dead on December 31, 1953. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
