Staff Sergeant Guillen was a platoon sergeant, Company F, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division. On July 25, 1953, when his outpost was under attack from two enemy battalions near Songuch-on, Korea, he exposed himself to enemy fire to organize the defense and to treat and evacuate the wounded. Although severely wounded he would not leave his position until the enemy was in full retreat.
