Lieutenant Hill was a member of Fighter Squadron 92, Carrier Air Wing 9 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS ENTERPRISE (CVAN-65). On December 29, 1965, he was the bombardier/navigator of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4B) on a combat mission through the Mu Gia Pass into Laos when his aircraft was hit by enemy fire and crashed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
