For his leadership and valor, First Lieutenant Hooten was awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
Notes
First Lieutenant Hooten was a member of Company I, 3rd Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. He was seriously wounded by the enemy at the Chosin Reservoir in North Korea on November 29, 1950 and died of those wounds on the following day. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
