Major Huneycutt was a member of the 389th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Da Nang, South Vietnam. On November 10, 1967, he was the bombardier/navigator of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4C) on a mission over Dong Hoi, North Vietnam. During the aircraft's dive bombing, communications were lost. His remains were recovered on November 3, 1988 and identified on September 26, 1989. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
