Captain Jackson was a member of the 56th Special Operations Wing, Udorn Air Base, Thailand, stationed at Long Tieng near the Plain of Jars, Laos. On December 24, 1972, he was the pilot of a Cessna Bird Dog Observation Aircraft (O-1D) serving as a forward air controller, spotted enemy supplies under trees in the Plain of Jars and requested Air Force support. Unfortunately his aircraft pulled up into the flight path of the Vought Attack Aircraft Corsair II (A-7A) and had its wing clipped. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
