Private First Class Jordan was a member of the 3rd Platoon, Company K, 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division. On November 15, 1951 near Kumsong, North Korea, he was leading his squad in a night attack on key terrain, when his unit came under intense enemy fire. When the platoon was ordered to withdraw, he remained to provide protective fire. He attacked and neutralized an enemy machine-gun and forced the enemy to withdraw. Although mortally wounded, he remained in position until his platoon returned.
