Aviation Electronics Technician Third Class Kibler was a crew member of a PBM-5 Mariner patrol bomber with Patrol Squadron 892 U.S. Navy. On April 22, 1951, on the return landing from a patrol over Korea to the Naval Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, his engine failed and the aircraft cartwheeled during an emergency landing in Iwakuni Bay, drowning him.
