Sergeant Lang was the tail gunner of a B-26B Invader bomber with 13th Bomber Squadron, 3rd Bomb Wing. On October 1, 1951, after a training flight, the aircraft's engine developed trouble and the aircraft crashed on landing. His remains were recovered.
