Staff Sergeant Lewandowski was a member of Company D, 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, 3rd Marine Division. On October 19, 1966, he was declared missing when he was 15 miles northwest of Da Nang, South Vietnam near the Cua Viet River. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
