Major Lodge was a member of the 432nd Tactical Reconnaissance Wing, Udorn Air Base, Thailand. On May 10, 1972, he was the pilot of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4D) in an air battle with 34 Phantoms against 41 MiGs. He shot down a MiG before being hit by one or more MiGs. His plane caught fire and crashed to the ground near Yen Bai, North Vietnam. His remains were recovered on September 30, 1977 and identified on October 25, 1977. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
