Captain Lucas was a member of 131st Aviation Company, 223rd Aviation Battalion, 17th Aviation Group. On December 20, 1966, he was the pilot of a Grumman Mohawk Aircraft (OV-1A) near Sepone, Laos when the aircraft was hit by enemy fire and crashed. His remains were recovered on September 20, 1999 and identified on April 26, 2002. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
