Lieutenant Commander Magda was a veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was the pilot of a F9F-2B Panther Jet fighter with Fighter Squadron 191 aboard the carrier USS PRINCETON (CV-37). On March 8, 1951, while on a combat mission over North Korea, his aircraft received a direct hit by anti-aircraft fire, and spiraled into the sea off Tanch'on, Korea.
