Major Martin was a member of the 44th Tactical Fighter Squadron. On July 15, 1968, he was the co-pilot of a Thunderchief Fighter (F-105F) on a mission 5 miles northwest of Dong Hoi, Quang Binh Province, North Vietnam, when his aircraft was shot down. His remains were recovered on July 31, 1989 and identified on November 3, 1989. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
