Sergeant First Class Maynard was a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. He was listed as Missing in Action while fighting the enemy in Korea North Korea on November 27, 1950. He was presumed dead on March 17, 1954. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
