Private First Class McClelland was a member of Company F, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division. On December 1, 1950, he was serving with an outpost north of Hagaru-ri, North Korea. His unit was surrounded by the enemy for 7 days. Finally, during the relief and withdrawal of his outpost, he was killed by enemy mortar fragments on December 8, 1950.
