Through the work of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, the remains of Second Lieutenant William J. McGowan were accounted for in 2019. His name is permanently inscribed on the "Tablets of the Missing” at the Normandy American Cemetery.
Second Lieutenant McGowan was permanently interred at Normandy American Cemetery on July 9, 2022.
