Col. Frederic M. Mellor was a member of the 20th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron. On August 13, 1965, he was the pilot of a McDonnell Voodoo Reconnaissance Fighter (RF-101C) attacking surface to air missile sites 25 miles west Hoa Binh, Son La Province, North Vietnam. When his aircraft was hit by a surface to air missile, he ejected safely to the ground, made radio contact but he lost contact. His remains were not recovered at the time. Through the work of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, the remains of Col. Mellor were accounted for in 2018. His name is permanently inscribed in the “Courts of the Missing” at the Honolulu Memorial.
