Lieutenant Junior Grade Miller was a member of Fighter Squadron 21, Carrier Air Wing 2 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS RANGER (CVA-61). On January 6, 1971, he was the radar intercept officer of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4J) on a night mission over North Vietnam. After the mission, the aircraft missed the arresting wire, then stopped just before falling over the deck. He ejected but his remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
