Captain Musil was a member of 131st Aviation Company, 212 Aviation Battalion, 11th Aviation Brigade. On May 31, 1971, he was the pilot of a Grumman Mohawk Aircraft (OV-1A) flying a visual reconnaissance when his aircraft crashed 6 kilometers south-southwest of Phou Ke Dai, Savannakhet Province, Laos. His remains were recovered on September 17, 2001 and identified on August 26, 2003. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
