Senior Master Sergeant Pittmann was a member of the 5th Air Commando Squadron. On November 16, 1966, he was a passenger in a Attack Aircraft Skyraider (A-1) from Nha Trang, South Vietnam to Udorn Airbase, Thailand. The aircraft was hit by enemy fire and crashed in Savannakhet Province, Laos. He successfully bailed out but ground contact was lost. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
