Major Pollin was a member of the 389th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Da Nang Air Base, South Vietnam. On April 29, 1967, he was the bombardier/navigator of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4C) acting as escorts for bombers to strike the Hanoi Bridge, North Vietnam. When his aircraft was near the Red River in Ha Tay Province, it was struck by hostile fire, crashed and exploded. His remains were recovered on September 13, 1990 and identified on December 17, 1990. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
