Lance Corporal Prather was a member of Company D, 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, 3rd Marine Division. On September 5, 1967, he was killed while fighting the enemy by small arms fire at Quang Tri, South Vietnam. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
