Aviation Machinist's Mate First Class Raab was a crew member of a Martin PBM-5S2 Mariner patrol bomber with Patrol Squadron 47, based at Naval Air Station Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. On June 9, 1954, the aircraft was enroute from Japan to Hong Kong when it struck the top of a mountain at Yaku Shima Island, Japan. All 17 personnel were killed.
