Staff Sergeant Rattin was a member of 131st Aviation Company, 212nd Aviation Battalion, 16th Aviation Group. On October 16, 1969, he was flying as an observer in a Grumman Mohawk Aircraft (OV-1C) over Laos when radio contact was lost and he was listed as Missing in Action. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
