Sergeant Richardson was a squad leader in Company I, 3rd Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action when he stepped on a box mine while on combat patrol near Hill 1073, North Korea on October 4, 1951. He was scheduled to take leave in Japan the following day.
