Captain Robertson was a member of the Marine All Weather Attack Squadron 533, Marine Attack Group 12, 1st Marine Air Wing. On July 7, 1972, he was the pilot of a Grumman Attack Aircraft Intruder (A-6A) was on a combat mission near the Demilitarized Zone in South Vietnam, when his aircraft was hit by ground fire near Khe Sanh and crashed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
