Private First Class Shettler was a member of Company E, 2nd Battalion, 279th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division. He was drowned by a flash flood while crossing the river near Inje, North Korea on August 18, 1952, one week prior to his scheduled departure from Korea.
