Chief Warrant Officer, Second Class Stanley was a member of 282nd Assault Helicopter Company, 212nd Aviation Battalion, 17th Aviation Group, 1st Aviation Brigade. On February 6, 1969, he was the pilot of a Bell Iroquois Utility Helicopter (UH-1H) on a re-supply mission to Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam. Bad weather caused the aircraft to return to the Vandergrift Landing Zone, but contact was lost. His remains were recovered on August 27, 1996 and identified on December 7, 2000. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
