Private First Class Stephenson was a member of Company H, 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. He was seriously wounded by the enemy in South Korea on July 30, 1950 and returned to duty on August 11, 1950. He was seriously wounded again on August 22, 1950 and died of those wounds later that day.
