Private Tanksley was a member of Company I, 3rd Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action while defending his position on "Old Baldy, Pork Chop Hill", North Korea on March 24, 1953 by enemy artillery fire.
