Lieutenant Colonel Wallace was a member of the Marine All Weather Attack Squadron 533, Marine Attack Group 12, 1st Marine Air Wing. On January 19, 1968, he was flying in a Grumman Attack Aircraft Intruder (A-6A) on a combat mission over North Vietnam, when radio contact was lost. His remains were recovered on April 10, 1986. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
