Master Sergeant Watlington was a member of Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. He was seriously injured in South Korea on October 5, 1950 and returned to duty on October 9, 1950. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea on November 29, 1950. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
