Colonel Wright was a member of the 15th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron. On March 7, 1966, he was the pilot of a McDonnell Voodoo Reconnaissance Fighter (RF-101C) on a mission 10 miles northwest of Con Cuong, Nghe An Province, North Vietnam, when his aircraft was shot down. His remains were recovered on June 21, 1989 and identified on September 26, 1989. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
