ABMC recognizes the Month of Military Child

Published April 15, 2020

The Month of the Military Child, observed in April, celebrates the past and present bravery and sacrifice of U.S. service members’ children on the home front. This month, the American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC) pays tribute to the children of WWI and WWII service members who made the ultimate sacrifice and are forever commemorated at ABMC cemeteries. Among them is Carol LaBounty whose father, Pfc. George J. Rajner, 505th Parachute Infantry Regt, 82nd Airborne Division, died in France on July 3, 1944 following the D-Day landings. His brothers, who all served, decided to have him buried alongside his comrades-in-arms. He now rests in Normandy American Cemetery, France, plot A, row 11, grave 18. She visited his grave last year, almost 75 years after he made the ultimate sacrifice.
