Florence American Cemetery shows support to the Italian people during covid-19

Published April 10, 2020

There’s no question that the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the lives of many individuals around the world. In this time of uncertainty and change, one American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC) cemetery superintendent and his staff have endeavored to ‘illuminate’ Florence American Cemetery’s (FLAC) unwavering support to the people of Italy and the United States.

Angel Matos, FLAC superintendent, and his staff are projecting the national colors of Italy and the United States against the Wall of the Missing in honor of those who have lost their lives and those who are fighting for their lives against the virus.

“I thought it would be nice to show that ABMC is supporting Italy,” said Matos.

Even though the cemetery will remain closed until further notice, the light display will illuminate the Wall of the Missing each night until the pandemic is over.
