The mission continues at ABMC cemeteries

Though precautionary measures surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic have resulted in some challenges for ABMC staff, our mission to honor and remember fallen U.S. service members continues. One ABMC cemetery superintendent’s creativity and actions embody the dedication and persistence displayed by each superintendent agency-wide.

Angel Matos (pictured) is the superintendent at Florence American Cemetery, one of ABMC’s World War II cemeteries located in Impruneta, Italy. Matos is shown wearing a prototype of his design for a protective mask that displays the ABMC seal.

According to Matos, the prototype is a double layered protective mask with a waterproof, breathable gauze lined in the inside.
