Private First Class Journey was a member of Company G, 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. On February 21, 1951, the first day of Operation Killer, his company was attacking on a heavily wooded hill near Chipjong-ni, South Korea. An enemy machine gun opened fire striking him in the chest. He died within the hour.
