Corporal Pope was a veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was a member of Company A, 378th Engineer Combat Battalion, U.S. Army. He was a passenger in a government vehicle which left the road and overturned. On June 27, 1951, he was killed when the vehicle in which he was riding overturned near Chunchon, South Korea.
