Captain Mills was a member of the Marine Attack Squadron 211, Marine Attack Group 12, 1st Marine Air Wing. On January 29, 1968, he was the pilot of a Douglas Attack Aircraft Skyhawk (A-4E) flying over Thua Thien, South Vietnam, when his plane crashed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
