Captain Polster was a member of the 389th Tactical Fighter Squadron at Phu Cat Air Base, South Vietnam. On July 15, 1969, he was the pilot of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4D) on a night reconnaissance 15 miles northeast of Chavane, Chavane Province, Laos, when his aircraft was struck by hostile fire and crashed. His remains were recovered on April 21, 2007 and identified on March 30, 2009. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
