For his leadership and valor, Sergeant Raymond was awarded the Navy Cross, the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Wharang Medal with Gold Star, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation, the Republic of Korea War Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
Notes
Sergeant Raymond was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. In Korea, he was a member of Company F, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division. His unit was heavily engaged with the enemy near Songuch-on, Korea on July 26, 1953. He rushed through a hail of gunfire to a nearby tank to call for friendly fire. On the way, he was killed by a burst from an enemy shell.
