In May 2016, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency exhumed the remains of an Unknown Soldier buried in Plot A Row 40 Grave 45 at Ardennes American Cemetery with the belief that an identification could be made. Research and analysis were used to positively identify the remains as belonging to SSgt. Michael Aiello, who served in the 401st Glider Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, and lost his life on October 1, 1945. His name is permanently inscribed on the Tablets of the Missing at Netherlands American Cemetery.
