Corporal Apodaca was a member of the Heavy Mortar Company, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was seriously Wounded in Action in North Korea on November 30, 1950 and returned to duty on January 3, 1951. He was taken Prisoner of War while fighting the enemy in South Korea on February 14, 1951. He died as a prisoner on March 31, 1951. CPL Apodaca's remains have been recovered and identified in 2014. His name is permanently inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
