Specialist Fourth Class Ashforth was a member of Company B, 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was killed in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) when attacked by North Korean infiltrators on July 16, 1967.
