Corporal Bailey was a member of the Heavy Mortar Company, 31st Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. On November 30, 1950, while fighting east of the Chosin Reservoir, his unit was struck by overwhelming Chinese forces. He was listed as Missing in Action and was presumed dead on December 31, 1953. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
