First Lieutenant Borschel was the pilot of a F-80C Shooting Star fighter interceptor with the 16th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron, 51st Fighter-Interceptor Group. On October 12, 1951, while on a combat mission, his aircraft's engine suffered a flame out ten miles south of Chaeryong, Korea. He was able to bail out successfully, but was killed later. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
